Prudhoe Town collected their first point of the season in a 2-2 draw at Whickham.
Ian Robson was an early marksman for the home team but Gavin Wood and Andy Dowson fired Prudhoe in front before Ben Haddock levelled on the stroke of half time.
Fire service plans for a £10m shake-up of 999 cover in Northumberland are finally to go ahead - three years after being approved amid a storm of controversy.
Work is expected to start early next year on the PFI-funded modernisation, which involves the closure of fire stations in Blyth, Cramlington, Morpeth and Ashington and the loss of about 28 full-time firefighter posts.
Prudhoe Town were on the wrong end of a mauling from a rejuvenated Brandon United.
Last season, Brandon just escaped relegation but so far they are a different proposition and enjoyed a five-goal romp at Prudhoe.
Their star was Paul Dixon, who struck four times with Chris Toye adding to the woes of Prudhoe.
WHEN Prudhoe ended a long wait for the Newcastle and District League title, spectators with a keen sense of golfing history were turning their minds back almost 40 years to an historic scene at Royal Birkdale.
After Jack Nicklaus conceded a three-foot putt to Tony Jacklin at the last hole of the last match of the 1969 Ryder Cup to guarantee what was then Great Britain & Ireland the first tie in the history of the Ryder Cup, the pair later collaborated on the building of the aptly named Concession golf course in Florida.
The design for a public sculpture that will be the focal point of a major improvement in Prudhoe has been unveiled.
The large glass and wave design will be installed this month in the centre of Prudhoe and engraved with words provided by local people.
Artists Dan Civico and Ira Lightman are behind the design.
He said: "We wanted to create something which was a bold design with a strong identity, but was executed with subtlety and consideration for its environment."
POLICE last night issued a stark warning to teenagers who swim in open waters after a 14-year-old girl had to be rescued from the River Tyne.
Laura Reay, from Prudhoe, was playing in the river with friends and family last Saturday when she was swept away by heavy currents.
Choking and struggling for air, she was saved by a friend who dangled a stick over the water and pulled her to the safety of the river bank. Last night the teenager said she feared for her life.
