Wylam teams enjoy mini soccer competition
Youngsters from across Tynedale came together at the weekend to show off their soccer skills.
The first indoor tournament of the Tynedale Mini Soccer League kicked off at Hexham's Wentworth Leisure Centre, with scores of young footballers turning up to practise their moves.
Thirteen teams of under-eights battled each other throughout the day under the watchful eye of veteran soccer league organiser Ivor Grey. He said: "This is the first of three indoor tournaments which are held every year.
"The turn-out has been very good with about 91 players taking part in five-a-side games throughout the day.
"It's great to have so many enthusiastic young players who are clearly having a lot of fun."
Adrian Dalton manages two teams of youngsters, along with fellow coaches Mike Dibb-Fuller, Martin Armstrong and Kevin Anderson. He said: "We have the Wylam Rockets and the Wylam Apollos in the league.
"We've been involved for six years now. The kids like playing and look forward to the tournaments. It's good to get them away from the TV and the Nintendo every now and then."
Every player in yesterday's tournament was given a medal for taking part, which was presented by Alex Waters from the league's sponsor company of eight years, Tyne Valley Insurance.
