Picture gallery: Ovingham Goose Fair 2009
Summer was in full swing in Northumberland at the weekend with a host of traditional events to get the county in the spirit of the season.
One of Northumberland's most historic events - the Ovingham Goose Fair - once again attracted hundreds of people with its centuries-old entertainment.
A procession of dancers, local tradespeople and children in colourful fancy dress passed through the village at 1pm on Saturday.
The fair itself was then officially opened with the traditional proclamation.
Some 69 stallholders flocked to the event to show off their wares to the eager public gathered to enjoy the festivities.
The fair, first held in 1471, used to be staged in the autumn and takes its name from when geese were walked from Carlisle to Newcastle for Christmas markets and stopped off at Ovingham on the way.
Revived in 1826 and again in 1969, it now takes place on the village green in the village, near Prudhoe in the Tyne Valley, and traditionally features morris dancing, crafts and Northumbrian pipes.
